Did You Know? – “Pirates…” Easter-Egg

Here’s a little something for you to chew on:

In 2006, Pirates of the Caribbean closed for a long long while in order to make enhancements to the ride’s technologies as well as to incorporate several characters from the film including Captain Barbossa, Jack Sparrow, and Davy Jones.

In the queue, they added more paintings of those famed pirates.  One of those paintings – Barbossa, in fact – is seen sporting just 4 fingers on his left hand.  Don’t believe me?  Take another look here!

Ouch!

It can be argued that he is hiding that pinky behind his coat, but I prefer to believe that he was in an intense battle and escaped with losing but a mere pinky!

What do you think happened?

An Ongoing Study of DLR Window Displays

It’s HalloweenTime at the Disneyland Resort! It’s quickly becoming one of my favorite times of the year at the park. I love the cooler weather, the costumes, the decorations, the food, the changing foliage and the window displays.

I love that the window displays are constantly changing with the seasons and holidays at the Disneyland Resort. They don’t always reflect the merchandise sold in the parks. At times they are little environments that invite you in and tickle your imagination.

Currently Main Street has offerings that display classic Americana, fitting of the turn of the century theme with classic wooden figurines, felt figures, elegant baked goods and a variety of creepy critters and spooky elements.  Each one encased in their own environments forcing you to step a bit closer and take a peek. You may even spy a classic Disney villain or two.

HalloweenTime at Disneyland is here until October 31st.

Did You Know? – “Tower of Terror” Easter-Egg

Here’s another in our “tiny details of Disneyland” series.  I love this kind of stuff at the parks.  The tiny details that start as a rumor and are confirmed by a cast member or website are what make repeat visits to the park a joy for APs and families alike.

Today’s easter-egg is at DCA inside the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.  Upstairs in the boiler room part of the queue, this “Lil’ Homies” action figure (available at your local grocery store or penny (.50¢) machine at the mall) stands guard at the far right elevator.

He's Watching Over You

He’s difficult to see in the dark queue but he’s there!  He welcomes everyone to the upper right-side freight elevator.  Keep an eye out for him next time you take a trip into the 5th dimension at the Disney California Adventure park!

Have You Noticed…

New Orleans Square transports park guests to a simpler time in New Orleans when it was a port town for trade ships, etc. Disney was not one to miss out on any detail and if you look at the right angle, you can see evidence of another waterfront just beyond the train tracks behind Royal St.

How neat!

Did You Know?: Disneyland K9 Unit

Did you know that Disneyland Resort has its own K9 Unit?

DLR K9 Unit
How official!

These well-trained canines patrol the parks rather inconspicuously while you and your families go about your day. They are well-trained and provided to the parks by the Anaheim Police Department. Keep an eye out for them next time you visit the parks!

Diets and Disneyland

I recently went on a very strict diet and Disneyland was the one place I allowed myself to “cheat.”  One of my favorite things to get at the DLR is pizza from Pizza Planet and a cookie.  Actually, the chocolate-chip cookies at Disneyland ANYWHERE went with every meal I got.  I suppose I’ll get into my favorite DLR snacks another time (Churros, for example, do not remind me or get me excited for Disneyland).

The BBQ Chicken Pizza Is My Vice!

What I wanted to talk about today was the discovery of the Disneyland Guten-Free Menu!  We discovered this 6-page (double-sided, even!) menu when going to City Hall on Main Street to suggest they leave the park’s restaurants open later than 10pm when Disneyland Park guests will potentially be roaming the park for another 2+hours.  While looking for food after 10, we continuously were pointed toward the bread-bowl stand for food and while that was a viable option for everyone else in my group, it does not fall in-line with my diet.

City Hall said they would take the suggestion into consideration and went a step further by offering up this awesome menu!  One would have never thought that there would be gluten-free buns at most burger and sandwich-eateries!  Who would have thunk that while your friends and family were having churros and bread-bowls, you can enjoy something else without having to have brought your own food?

And while all of the gluten-free options might not fall 100% into my diet (I cannot have corn and other strange things I’d rather not go into), it certainly is a healthier option for someone like me who LOVES Disneyland food and is also trying to “shape up” for a wedding!  I’ll be reporting on some of my favorite foods from this menu in future posts but I would love to hear what your favorite healthy Disneyland snacks are!  Heathy dining at Disneyland?  I back it!
